2018 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Vintage Notes
The 2018 growing season was special as it commemorates our first vintage from CIRQ’s new home in the heart of the Russian River Valley. It was an ideal growing season in many ways, with beautiful growing conditions. Spring was cooler than recent vintages which led to a longer bloom with consistently good fruit set and generous yields. Summer brought moderate temperatures with chilled foggy mornings and much fewer heat spikes allowing for even and extended ripening time. We delicately picked in multiple passes as we typically do to create as many small lots as possible. The resulting wine is an elegant expression of our own backyard, with refined intensity and finesse. As usual, we focus our attention on Mother Nature and what she brings. A powerful force indeed, and something we cherish.
Tasting Notes
Aromatics: Deep pomegranate and raspberry aromas, accented with violet and hibiscus flowers, with hints of tangerine peel, vanilla bean, and a touch of cassis.
Flavors: Fresh strawberry with a slight dash of cream. Crisp bing cherry, with a moderate touch of Red Delicious apple skin and all the goodness that it brings. Delicate tannins which ensue and elevate the flavors. The nuances are layered with oolong tea, star anise, pink peppercorn, and freshly baked gingersnap.
Mouthfeel: Rich and round with a satin, velvety texture. Mouthwatering and juicy throughout with fine and delicate tannin, and a resounding finish.
